Dr. Emefa Modey is a public health professional and academic with focus on Maternal and child health, specifically, Family planning, Sexual and Reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and cardiovascular diseases in pregnancy. Her research spans several critical areas, including Maternal and Child Health, Family Planning, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, and cardiovascular diseases during pregnancy.
Emefa is currently a lecturer at the University of Ghana, School of Public Health in the department of Population family and reproductive health (PFRH). She is also an honorary assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in the faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health and a team member of the LSHTM Communications and Student Experiences workstream, as part of the joint Online MSc in Sexual Reproductive Health Policy and Programming (SRHPP). In addition to her teaching roles, she is a faculty member of the World Health Organisation Human Reproduction Programme (WHO HRP) Alliance for research capacity building scholarship scheme, where she mentors students. She is actively engaged with the Policy Imperatives Working Group (PIWG),of the Africa Research, Implementation Science, and Education Network (ARISE).
As a passionate advocate for equitable access to health care and minimizing health disparities, she has a deep sense of empathy and cultural competence. She actively engages in initiatives focused on her mission of transforming and advancing development and healthier societies in Africa, with a commitment to reducing disparities, enhancing health outcomes for women and children, and building local capacity.
Emefa holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of Ghana School of public health, department of Population, Family & Reproductive Health. Her academic journey includes a Master of Science in International Health from the University of Leeds Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Ghana.
